What is a Terrarium?

Terrariums are your very own miniature world within glass. They are glass containers that encapsulate small succulents or moisture-loving foliage. Terrariums often lack drainage and can be sealed off completely under the right circumstances.

The planting media consists of a layer of sand for drainage, charcoal to absorb impurities and prevent mold growth, and a healthy layer of organic soil fit for your plant roots.

Decorative river rock, crystals, mosses, and more can then be nestled alongside your plants to create a scene of your own design.

How to care for your Terrarium!

The care will depend on the type of vessel you’ve used for your terrarium, as well as the species of plants. If it is closed, we recommend low indirect lighting. Watering every six weeks, you can leave it open for a brief period of time if you find the glass gets foggy. Keep the terrarium in your home, somewhere between 65 and 75 degrees. It is best to trim your plants if you find they are crowding the terrarium and to clear any dead plant matter promptly.  If your terrarium is opened, bright indirect lighting will help it thrive. Depending on the plants you’ve chosen, watering can be done every four weeks or weekly. The temperature should stay consistent at 60 degrees to 80 degrees. Maintenance is simple with these; remove fallen leaves and dust off the plants and decorations as necessary.
